If a lead abandons their cart without completing a purchase, you can automate follow-up actions such as sending an email reminder or scheduling a call. Below are the steps to create and manage an Abandoned Cart sequence using workflows.

Note:

The Abandoned Cart Workflow works exclusively with the 2-step order form. This workflow triggers when a lead completes the first step of the order form but does not make a payment in the second step.

Part 1: Setting Up the Workflow for Abandoned Cart

Step 1: Configure the Workflow Trigger

  1. Navigate to Automations > Workflows and create a new Workflow.

  2. Select Order Form Submission as your Workflow trigger.

  3. Apply the necessary filters:

    • Choose the funnel or website.

    • Set the submission type to Optin (for abandoned carts).

  4. Note: If no funnel or website is specified, the trigger will apply to all order form submissions.

  5. Save the trigger to add it to your Workflow.

Step 2: Add a Wait Step

  1. Set up a wait period to give users time to complete their purchase and identify cart abandonment.

  2. Save the action.

Step 3: Add the Abandoned Cart Contact Tag

  1. Add a new step and select Add Contact Tag.

  2. Type “Abandoned Cart” to label users who have not completed their purchase, and save the action.

Step 4: Implement Follow-Up Actions

  1. Add follow-up actions, such as sending emails or SMS reminders, based on the user’s abandoned cart status.

  2. Save the Workflow.

Part 2: Creating a Second Workflow to Remove the Abandoned Cart Tag After Purchase

Step 1: Configure a Second Workflow

  1. Create a second Workflow and set Order Form Submission as the trigger.

  2. Apply filters:

    • Choose the funnel or website.

    • Set the submission type to Sale (for completed purchases).

  3. Save the trigger.

Step 2: Remove Abandoned Cart Tag and Stop Follow-Ups

  1. Add a step to Remove Contact Tag and select the “Abandoned Cart” tag you created in Part 1.

  1. Add another step to Remove from Workflow:

    • Choose Another Workflow.

    • Select the abandoned cart Workflow created in Part 1.

  1. Save the action and publish both Workflows.

FAQs

How do I set up a Workflow trigger for abandoned cart sequences?
To set up an abandoned cart Workflow trigger, go to Automations > Workflows, create a new Workflow, select Order Form Submission, and set the filters to your funnel/website with the submission type as Optin. Save the trigger to activate it in your Workflow.

Why is a wait step necessary in the Workflow?
A wait step allows enough time for the user to complete their purchase. This period is crucial to determine if the cart was abandoned, triggering follow-up actions if no payment is made.

What is the purpose of the "Abandoned Cart" contact tag?
The "Abandoned Cart" tag identifies users who have not completed their purchase, making it easier to target them with follow-up actions such as reminder emails or calls.

How do I remove the "Abandoned Cart" tag once a purchase is made?
Create a second Workflow triggered by Order Form Submission with the submission type as Sale. Then add a step to Remove Contact Tag and select the "Abandoned Cart" tag to ensure it is removed once a user completes their purchase.

Can I stop users from receiving follow-up messages if they purchase after abandoning their cart?
Yes, by adding a step to Remove from Workflow in the second Workflow. Choose the abandoned cart Workflow to remove users from receiving further follow-ups once they make a purchase.
