Guide to Setting Default Payment Gateways in Advisor's Growth

When connecting multiple payment gateways on the Integrations page in Advisor's Growth, it is essential to designate a Default Payment Gateway. This ensures that all payments are processed through your preferred gateway, especially when multiple gateways are eligible to handle transactions. Here, we’ll outline how to specify the default gateway for order forms, invoices, and more.

Overview of Default Payment Gateways

A default gateway serves as the primary choice for processing payments when more than one gateway is connected. Whether using Stripe, PayPal, Authorize.Net, or NMI, setting this gateway ensures consistency in how payments are processed across various product areas like memberships, order forms, and SaaS payment links.

Setting the Default Gateway

When connecting a new gateway, you will be prompted to choose whether to set it as the Default Payment Gateway.

  • Cancel: Integrates the gateway without making it the default.

  • Confirm: Integrates the gateway and sets it as the default for processing payments.

PayPal and Stripe Integration

  • Multiple Gateways: You can connect both PayPal and Stripe (or any other gateway like Authorize.Net or NMI) simultaneously without needing to disconnect either one.

  • Default Gateway Requirement: Since you have multiple connected gateways, one must be designated as the default for processing payments through order forms and invoices.

  • PayPal Usage: PayPal will function alongside Stripe/Authorize.Net/NMI on order forms. However, PayPal cannot be selected as the default gateway. The default must be selected from gateways like Stripe, Authorize.Net, or NMI.

Authorize.Net Considerations

  • If Authorize.Net is set as the default, payments for specific product areas (like memberships and SaaS payment links) will still process through Stripe.

  • Recurring Subscriptions: Existing recurring payments or pending transactions that are processed through Stripe will continue running unless Stripe is disconnected.

NMI Integration

  • Stripe Compatibility: There is no need to disconnect Stripe when connecting to NMI. Both can function simultaneously.

  • NMI as Default: If NMI is set as the default gateway, only invoices, text2pay links, and order form payments will be processed through NMI. Other areas, like memberships and SaaS, will continue to use Stripe.

Google Pay and Apple Pay

  • Stripe Requirement: Google Pay and Apple Pay can only be processed through Stripe. You cannot use both Google/Apple Pay and another credit card processor like NMI or Authorize.Net simultaneously.

Important Notes:

  • If a gateway is disconnected while there are ongoing subscriptions or pending transactions, those payments will fail, and the subscription will move to unpaid status.

  • It’s recommended to maintain all connected gateways to prevent any disruption to existing subscriptions.

Workflow Automation with Payment Gateways

  • Custom values and If/Else filters exist for payment gateways within workflows when utilizing the Order Submitted trigger. This provides flexibility in routing payments through specific gateways based on business logic.

By defining a Default Payment Gateway in Advisor's Growth, you can streamline the payment process while ensuring that existing subscriptions and transactions run smoothly across multiple platforms.
