Setting Up Gmail for Email Services

Using Gmail as your email service provider within Advisor's Growth offers a reliable way to send emails to your leads. To ensure proper setup and smooth functioning, follow the steps below:

Note: Users in the Philippines should use a VPN when connecting to Gmail's SMTP.

Step 1: Generating Your Gmail App Password

  1. Go to myaccount.google.com/security.

  2. Click your profile icon in the top-right corner.

  3. Select "Manage your Google Account" and make sure you're in the correct account if you have multiple Google profiles active.

  4. From the left-hand menu, select "Security."

  5. Scroll down to find "App Passwords" and click on it.

    • Note: If "App Passwords" is missing, you’ll need to enable two-step verification for your Google account. You can no longer use the "Allow Less Secure Apps" option.

  6. Choose the appropriate email account from the dropdown.

  7. Enter your password and click "Next."

  8. Choose "Other (Custom name)" and label it something like "SMTP/Email Integration."

  9. Click "Generate."

  10. Copy the highlighted password; you'll need it to connect Gmail as your SMTP in the next step.

Step 2: Connecting Your Gmail Account to Advisor's Growth

  1. Open your Advisor's Growth account and go to "Settings."

  2. Navigate to "Email Services."

  3. Click "Add Service" in the upper-right corner.

  4. Select "Provider" and choose Gmail from the list.

  5. Paste the app password you created in Step 1.

  6. Hit "Save."

Troubleshooting and Best Practices:

  • When using Gmail as your email/SMTP provider, some emails might be flagged as spam or fail to send. Make sure you're following these practices:

    • Use the same Gmail account for both sending emails and automation to avoid deliverability issues.

    • Gmail may flag your emails as spam if your provider email (e.g., "TestEmail@gmail.com") differs from your sending email (e.g., "SampleEmail@gmail.com").

    • Be mindful of Gmail’s email sending limits. Typically, Gmail allows around 150 emails to be sent daily.

Note: Currently, only Mailgun reports detailed statistics back into Advisor's Growth. Other providers may not offer the same level of reporting.

VPN Notice: For users in the Philippines, make sure to use a VPN when connecting Gmail to avoid issues with the SMTP configuration.

Important Update:

If you are using a Google Sending Domain, refer to the article, “Setting a Dedicated Google or Yahoo Sending Email Domain.” As of February 2024, Google and Yahoo have introduced new requirements for their email domains. Implementing a _dmarc record for your domain is crucial to improve email deliverability, avoid spam filters, and build credibility as a sender.
