Understanding the Difference Between One-Step and Two-Step Order Forms

When choosing between a one-step and a two-step order form, it's essential to understand their structural differences and the scenarios where each excels. Both types are designed to gather contact, shipping, and payment details from leads interested in your product or service. Here’s a breakdown of their differences and setup instructions:

Part 1: What is a One-Step Order Form?

A one-step order form consolidates all required information—contact details, shipping address, and payment information—into a single form. When the user clicks "Complete Order," all provided information is processed, and payment is completed in one go. This streamlined approach is ideal for users who prefer a quick, straightforward checkout process.

What is a Two-Step Order Form?

A two-step order form separates the collection of information into two distinct stages:

  • Step 1: Collects contact and shipping details.

  • Step 2: Gathers payment information.

The key advantage of a two-step order form is that if a user completes the first step but abandons the form before the second step, you still retain their contact information. This enables you to follow up with reminders or targeted offers. For strategies on how to leverage abandoned cart data, refer to our article on “Workflow Abandoned Cart Template.”

Part 2: Setting Up an Order Form

Step 1: Create an Order Form in a Funnel

  1. Navigate to Funnels:

    • Go to Sites in the sidebar and click on Funnels.

    • Add a new funnel step and choose Create from Blank.

  2. Design Your Layout:

    • Drag and drop the desired column width and types into your page layout.

  3. Add the Order Form:

    • Click Add Element.

    • In the side editing bar, drag and drop either a One-Step or Two-Step Order Form into the working area.

Step 2: Customize Your Order Form

  1. Edit the Form Appearance:

    • Click on the form to reveal the left-side editing bar.

    • Under the General tab, customize the form’s visual design.

  2. Configure Functional Settings:

    • Under the Advanced tab, adjust the form’s functionality. Here you can enable:

      • Cart Mode: For more details, see our article “Cart Mode in One-Step and Two-Step Order Forms.”

      • Product Description: Display product details.

      • Order Bump: Offer additional products.

      • Coupon Codes: Allow discount code entry.

Step 3: Save Your Form

  • Ensure all your changes are saved by clicking Save.

By understanding these differences and following the setup instructions, you can select the most suitable order form for your needs and create an efficient checkout experience for your users.
