How to Transfer a Domain to Cloudflare

This guide will walk you through the process of transferring your domain's nameservers to Cloudflare.

Step 1: Add Your Site to Cloudflare

  1. Log In to Your Cloudflare Account:

    • Go to your Cloudflare dashboard.

    • Click on Add Site.

  2. Enter Your Domain:

    • Input the domain name you wish to add (e.g., example.com).

    • Select the payment plan that suits your needs. The Free plan is a great option for most users.

  3. DNS Records Scan:

    • Cloudflare will scan your current DNS records. This may take a few moments.

Step 2: Update Nameservers

  1. Review the Scan Results:

    • Once the DNS scan is complete, review the DNS records Cloudflare has found.

    • Click Continue.

  2. Change Nameservers:

    • Cloudflare will provide you with two nameservers.

    • Go to your domain registrar (where you initially registered your domain).

    • Replace your current nameservers with the ones provided by Cloudflare.

  3. Finalize the Setup:

    • After updating the nameservers, return to Cloudflare and click Done, check nameservers.

    • Cloudflare will verify the change, which may take some time depending on your domain registrar.

Important Note: Proxy Status

  • Set Proxy Status to DNS Only:

    • Ensure that the Proxy status is set to "DNS only" when adding your domain to Settings > Domains. Cloudflare Proxy is not supported for this specific setup.

Once everything is correctly configured, your domain will now be managed through Cloudflare's DNS, allowing you to take advantage of their security and performance features.
